Frequently Asked Questions - Web Design

Below are common questions we are asked about our design Procedures. If you require more information, please feel free to contact us and we'll be happy to help.

What are the reasons to have a Web site?

The answer is obvious for Internet-only companies, but not so clear for traditional businesses. Here are some motives that drive traditional businesses to the Internet:
  • Expansion of the business.
Internet presents the unprecedented opportunity to grow the customer base and increase sales for almost any type of business.
  • New business model.
Some traditional businesses totally restructure their operations to function on the Internet.
No other media is capable of combining the strong powerful imaging of a small ad with the entirety of a complete list of products and services.
  • Information posting.
Graphic, photo, and text documents are easily made available through a Web site. Price lists, current promotions, product catalogs, descriptions of services, menus and any other documents that require regular maintenance could be managed almost effortlessly and instantaneously on the Internet.
  • Customer Perception.
Today a business that does not have a Web site is often seen as not being successful.
  • Peer pressure.
In all industries more and more traditional businesses of any size maintain their own Web sites.
  • Price.
A number of Web solutions can be customized to fit your specific needs while remaining very affordable.

Why hire a professional Web Designer Company?

Even a very basic Web site that presents auxiliary, unimportant information will be considered by your customers as a part of your overall business image. The bigger the site, the more essential it is to convey a clear visual message, provide transparent navigation, and create cohesive, consistent environment and easily learned user interface. Our professionals have in-depth knowledge and extensive experience in dealing precisely with these cruxes on a day-to-day basis. We routinely handle complex technical issues such as image animation, Web/database server programming, Web security, audio and video feeds, Web site maintenance and more.

What are the technical solutions that you provide?

Our solutions are custom tailored to the needs of our clients. Our specialists are well equipped to work with numerous operating systems, software packages, and computer languages. Most of the Web solutions are developed for Windows and/or Unix. But we also work in other environments including Client/Server and Mainframe systems. Please contact us to inquire about specific programming languages and software packages.

Is our project right for Progma?

No project is too big, too small, too complex or too simple for us. We will work on projects that are right for you.

Does geographic location matter when selecting a Web design company?

No, it does not. We have successfully managed a number of projects for remote clients. In such cases uninterrupted communication is effectively supported via telephone, fax, e-mail, and regular mail.

If we want to have a Web site, do we need to invest in computer equipment?

No, there is no need to buy any equipment at all. In fact, in some cases you could have a professional Web site even without having a computer. We could do it all for you.

How long it might take to develop a Web site?

For smaller projects an operational Web site could be delivered within weeks, for larger more complex projects it might take months. In any case you would be given specific timelines for each individual project. In some cases, when it is necessary to establish or support company's Internet presence, it is possible to roll out transitional versions (with restricted functionality) of a Web site before the final version is finished.

What do we need to get started?

No specific technical knowledge, equipment, or registrations are necessary on your part. Just contact us. If you have a general understanding of why you want to be on the Internet let us discuss it and we will help you to develop it into a professional Web site.

What is involved in the preliminary design stage?

After initial consultations (by phone, email or in person), we request relevant materials from you. Commonly, these would include graphics, photos, site text and ideas you wish to incorporate into your site. We also ask you to fill in a questionnaire that helps highlight your exact needs. Upon receipt of the requested materials, we present some design ideas to you to choose from. If necessary, we also begin researching your optimal key phrases at this time so that we can re-write your site text to be search engine 'friendly'. Time spent on this stage will depend on the project size - you will be advised on this at the start of your project.

What do we talk about during consultations and in the questionnaire?

It is very important that we understand what style of web site you require. Do you want a modern site, a funky site or a more formal corporate image? Color schemes are normally dictated by your existing company colors, although nothing is set in stone. We'll talk about types of navigation, how many pages are required and what each page will contain. We'll ask you who your target audience are, what you hope to gain from your site and we'll offer suggestions on how to improve your site with your target clientele in mind. By then end of our discussions, we should have a solid foundation of ideas to complete your site.

Do you use templates?

Only on your request. Using templates could save you some money, but we prefer unique designs, based on both your existing company look, and the guidelines you give us.

What format do graphics and text need to be in?

Your company logo should ideally be in the original format that your logo designer produced it in. With this file, we can produce a crisp, clean web version for your site. We should be able to read most file formats. Text should preferably be saved as a Microsoft Word .doc file, but we happily accept a standard .txt file. Photographs can be in paper form or in standard digital formats such as .jpg, .bmp or .tif. We can discuss this in greater detail at the start of the project.

How can we send you this information?

Computer files, such as your logos and text can be sent by email. Photographs and promotional materials should be mailed, preferably using registered mail to ensure safe arrival. If you like, you can transfer computer files to a floppy disk, a CD-ROM or a Zip disk and mail them. For businesses around Chicago and especially Chicago North suburbs, we may be able to arrange collection of these items from you personally.

How do you search engine optimize our site text?

We initially ask that you draw up a list of key phrases that would be associated with your business. We use these phrases as a starting point for our own investigations, eventually finding the perfect key phrases for your business that will bring in the most traffic. Once we have these key phrases, we ask that you send us your draft site text and we help re-write it to be search engine friendly, incorporating your key phrases in all the right places. This draft is returned to you for approval (and of course, you have final say on its content). Learn more about our search engine promotion services.
